Rights & privacy
A concise statement of what belongs to this project, how archival material is handled, and what happens when you visit.
Different items carry different rights.
© 2026 Meteorologist Rob Jones / 1926Hurricane.com. Original writing, design, selection and compilation created for this site are protected. Historical photographs, documents, newspapers, maps, film, audio and other third-party material remain subject to the item-level credit, repository statement, license and source terms shown with each object. Some items are public domain; some are used with permission; and some have an undetermined rights status. No ownership is claimed in third-party material.
A city, county or university repository can own a physical object or a digital scan without owning every copyright in the work. “Rights undetermined” therefore does not mean “no copyright,” and a public institution is not automatically a public-domain source. This exhibit locally preserves material when the item record states that it is public domain or reusable, when the owner supplied or cleared it, or when a documented legal basis supports the particular use. Otherwise, the exhibit links to the repository record.
This is an educational, nonprofit, no-advertising historical exhibit. That purpose does not itself cancel copyright or grant permission for reuse. Visitors wishing to reproduce an item should follow its source link and consult the credited repository or rights holder. A good-faith rights concern may be submitted to the site owner with the item URL, a description of the work and evidence of the claimant’s interest so the item can be reviewed promptly.
The exhibit is designed to collect as little data as possible.
The site currently has no advertising, account registration, email capture form or first-party behavioral analytics. Its reading interface may use temporary browser session storage to restore your position on a page; that value remains in your browser for the session and is not used to identify you.
Cloudflare hosts and secures the site and may process standard technical request information—such as IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp and security signals—in accordance with its own policies and applicable law. The site also links to outside repositories and uses privacy-enhanced YouTube embeds. Opening an external link or playing embedded media may allow that provider to receive technical data and apply its own privacy or cookie rules. You can read the exhibit without playing those videos.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to request access, correction, deletion, restriction or objection concerning personal data, and to complain to a supervisory authority. Because this site does not maintain visitor accounts or a marketing database, it may hold no visitor record that can reasonably be linked back to you. This notice will be revised before any analytics, newsletter, contact form or other new data collection is enabled.
